Dana Vollmer is a famous swimmer who has won medals in many different international competitions and she has also competed in the Beijing Olympics.   She was on the United States National team which took gold at the 2008 Olympic Games,   whereas her partner Leisel Jones got silver. Dana went to Stanford University where she studied Political Science and played water polo before changing her focus to swimming again after graduating school with honours for all three of her majors: Economics, History, and International Relations.  After going through surgery for scoliosis as well as having two children, Dana returned to competitive swimming in 2009 only four months after giving birth to Lucy.

In 2008, Vollmer was the first-ever female swimmer to take home three medals in one Olympic Games with a silver medal for her part in the 400-meter freestyle and two golds, one each from the 100-meter butterfly and 200-meter individual medley. She also won four medals in Beijing as well as setting an American record of 54:00 seconds in this event which stood until 2015 when Katie Ledecky broke it by nearly 11 seconds.
