Valentina Ivanova Zuvareff was a Mexican dancer. She was married to Mario Fortino Alfonso Moreno-Reyes, motley known as Cantinflas. Cantinflas was a famous Mexican comic actor, screenwriter, and also producer.

On 27th October 1917, Valentina Ivanova Zuvareff was born in Moscow, Russia.  Her age will be 104 years as of 2021 If she was alive. Her father was Gregor Ivanoff (Грегор Иванов), and her mother was Anita Ivanoff. When the Russian Civil War started, her parents escaped along with her two sisters and moved to Mexico in 1919. Then they founded a traveling theater company there named Carpa Valentina. She used to perform with her sisters Olga and Tamara and her mother as the leading member of the show. They were called the Trio Zuvareff.

In 1929, young Mario Moreno Reyes joined the company, Carpa Valentina. His popularity started increasing gradually. Valentina and Mario began into a relationship. Despite parental hesitation, this couple got married on December 15, 1934. They remained together until their deaths. However, Cantinflas had an extra-marital affair with a Houston American woman Joyce Jett. He spent a lot of time with her in town, away from the spotlight.

Mario Moreno Reyes was one of Mexico’s most adored cinematic figures. He acquired his unique name, Cantinflas, to prevent his parents from knowing he was in the entertainment business. He was a despotic comedian who cast himself as the enthusiastic voice of ordinary people. He could invalidate the most absurd forms of bureaucracy with a flow of his trademark claptrap talk. He achieved numeric comic mileage out of the old vaudeville technique. 

In the mid-30s, Cantinflas met producer and publicist Santigo Reachi, with whom he founded an own film production venture. Cantinflas acted while Reachi produced, distributed, and directed. He didn’t get a good image as an actor initially, but he gained popularity to portray the needy peasant of bare origin. He also made a series of comic short subjects where he was featured in a short story. He also signed two full-length features named Ahí está el detalle (Here’s the Point, 1940) and Ni sangre ni arena (Neither Blood Nor Sand, 1941). 

After that, he became renowned for the role of Passepartout in the legendary Hollywood film ‘Around the World in 80 Days.’ People often refer to him as the ‘Charlie Chaplin of Mexico.’ Even Chaplin himself appreciated his talent as the best comedian of that time. 

Cantinflas achieved Golden Globe Award for Best Performance in 1957. Besides, the Mexican Academy of Film awarded him with Special Ariel Award in 1952 and the Golden Ariel Award in 1987. It is considered to be the most reputable award in the Mexican film industry. He also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 6438 Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood, California, on February 8, 1960. 

He passed away due to lung cancer on 20th April 1993. His funeral was announced as a national event that lasted three days despite heavy rain. The US Senate also held a moment of silence for the departed soul of Cantinflas.

The name of the boy.’is Mario Arturo Moreno Ivanova. Then Valentina legally adopted him and took care of him like her own child.
